Welcome to the Mack Center

Mission Statement

The mission of the Mack Center on Nonprofit Management in the Human Services is to document and expand the knowledge base of nonprofit organizations, share this knowledge with the practice community, and conduct research on the challenges facing nonprofit human service organizations. The Mack Center utilizes multiple research methods to contribute to our understanding of nonprofit service delivery, innovation, advocacy and community building.

Description

Nonprofit human service organizations provide services to an array of populations that include: children, youth and families; the elderly; individuals with physical, mental and developmental disabilities; immigrant and refugee populations; people struggling with poverty and homelessness; people seeking treatment for substance abuse; and people involved in the criminal justice system. The nonprofit sector of human service organizations can be viewed in relationship to the public and for-profit sectors in terms of:

  • Partnerships and their interdependent role in delivering publicly-supported and funded human services
  • Financial and program accountability related to service outcomes and financial management
  • Human resource development related to training nonprofit managers

The Mack Center's unique focus is on research and support for nonprofit human service organizations. Through the promotion of evidence-informed practice, the Mack Center is dedicated to balancing the tools of public action utilized in the public sector with the tools of private action used by the nonprofit sector.
