Women's Issues in Social Service Administration: The Views and Experiences of Women Administrators

Abstract

An examination, based on data from in-depth interviews, of the perceptions & experiences of 57 women in social service administration, & their views concerning numerous women's issues for social service administrators. The topics include: (1) the perceived effects of their being women on their hiring, promotions, & salaries as administrators; (2) how being women in administration influenced their relationships with superiors & subordinates & their access to professional networks; (3) whether a woman administrator must be more competent than a man in the same position to be viewed as equally competent; & (4) experiences with sexual harrassment.
