A Dialogue for Change: Policy, Politics and Advocacy

Abstract

The history of the US has been a dialogue between the Jeffersonian approach, founded on trust in the people, & the Hamiltonian approach, founded on management of the people. The present situation can be understood as a continuation of this conflict. The basic problem of the 1980s is the maldistribution of wealth & power, & the shaping of federal policy to aid the wealthy & powerful, while leaving the poor with unmet needs. Human service professionals have an important role to play in resisting repressive programs & supporting the redistribution of power & wealth. W. H. Stoddard
