Preparing women for human service administration: building on experience

Abstract

A study analyzed the effectiveness of a 10-year effort to provide special preparation for women in social welfare administration. Eighty-four social work graduates, all of whom had completed a course on women in social welfare administration, were surveyed to determine whether the course had helped them to make career choices and to move into and succeed in administrative positions. Other aspects of their experience, such as barriers encountered and leadership styles, were also studied. Recommendations for future curricula are drawn from the survey results. It is concluded that special preparation efforts are still helpful.
