Diversity and Equity Among Foundation Grantmakers

Abstract

This article examines a number of diversity and equity issues related to grantmakers, primarily by using data from the Council on Foundations. In general, the percentage of minority grantmakers approximates their percentage in the overall population. Questions are raised about whether grantmakers receive equal pay regardless of race and whether minority grant¬makers disproportionately work on issues related to their population group. The article concludes with a description of the research data that would be needed to definitely answer these types of questions.
