Managing a diverse workforce

Abstract

America's workforce is undergoing dramatic changes, particularly by becoming older and more diverse as to race, age, gender, national origin, culture, and lifestyle. Focusing on black, gay and lesbian, and older workers, the authors outline how social workers can apply their skills and knowledge to issues and structural changes needed within the organization to promote inclusion of these groups, to identify the types of training programs needed to alter attitudes and behaviors among workers and managers, and to make the modifications needed to adapt clinical interventions for use with varying populations found in the workplace assistance programs.
