Ad Hoc Voluntary Organizations: Devices for Spontaneous Political Actions

Abstract

Without refuting the general observation of Norway as a typical case of a neocorporatist political system, with interest groups as highly integrated parts in the state machinery, some of the limits of that general picture are demonstrated, as is the need for further studies on the conditions under which one style of action or another tends to develop. Three approaches seem particularly fruitful in achieving new insight into the generation & role of ad hoc voluntary group action: (1) perspectives drawn from theories of social change, (2) perspectives drawn from theories of exchanges & the role of strategic resources, & (3) perspectives drawn from theories of nondecisions & the role of ambiguity. 1 Table.
