Structures of Multinational Nonprofit Organizations

Abstract

Draws on the extensive descriptive literature on nonprofits & the theoretical literature on the structural determinants of organizations to make predictions about the potential structural range of multinational nonprofits. It is shown that local resource density & environmental variation are key factors in determining multinational nonprofit structures. Such nonprofits are likely to be structured as umbrella organizations, acting as an additional layer of hierarchy for multiple indigenous organizations, but unitary, hierarchical corporate structures are unlikely. 1 Table, 2 Figures, 47 References.
