The mass media: a vital adjunct to the new community and administrative practice

Abstract

The mass media exert a powerful influence on the public's understanding and support of social welfare services. They are used extensively by groups that are ignorant of, or indifferent to, the needs of vulnerable populations. To redress the balance, social service organizations must make better use of the media to generate greater public understanding and support of their work. (Journal abstract, edited.)
