Dominant Statuses and Involvement in Types of Instrumental and Expressive Voluntary Associations

Abstract

Two typologies that differentiate & classify formal voluntary associations ([FVAs] see SA 7:4/6428 & 14:4/66C0117) are synthesized & applied to information from mailed questionnaires completed by 289 students at a Calif State Coll. The dependent variable is the extent of involvement in different types of FVAs; the independent variable is SS & is based on the social dimensions of SC, sex, age, marital status, religion, Coll class, Coll major, & grade point average. Using a specific SS for each R, a single overall index of SS dominance or subordination is obtained. 3 Tables, 18 References. Modified HA.
