Hispanic Nonprofit Organizations in the State of California

Abstract

This article presents an initial assessment of the numbers and functions of nonprofit organizations within the California Hispanic community, whose population will soon constitute one-third of the state total. The changing social and political realities accompanying rapid population growth have stimulated a notable expansion in numbers and kinds of nonprofit groups. Changing realities have also motivated key organizations to replace older, piecemeal approaches to community problems with regional and strategic ones.
