Client Rights, Advocacy and Volunteerism

Abstract

An examination of the role of volunteers in defending & defining client rights in service institutions ranging from mental hospitals to public welfare agencies. After tracing the history & dimensions of the client rights movement & its impact on service delivery, specific functions that volunteers can perform relative to client rights in organizational settings are suggested. The special role of volunteers in these situations arises from their unique status vis-a-vis the organization & client & could not be duplicated by professionals. HA.
