Ethics and the private non-profit human service organizations.
Abstract
Increasingly, public-sector human service organizations have expanded their reliance on contracting-out to for-profit and private nonprofit corporations for services they are charged by law to deliver. A discussion argues that the current threat to the existence of nonprofit organizations should be of serious concern to the social work profession and to the nation. Using the context of "gift giving," the discussion examines the implications of a gift-giving relationship for both the service provider and the recipient. Included are the motivations, opportunities, and capacities of the organizations and ethical issues stemming from altruistic intent.
