Experiment in Intra-Organizational Coordination

Abstract

A description of the efforts of a state child welfare agency in the northeastern US to pilot an experiment in intraorganizational coordination aimed at standardizing operations among its 1,000 child protective service workers. The effort engages county managers & caseworkers in the development of comprehensive work plans that operationalize all aspects of service delivery. A philosophy of "community social work" is applied as a framework for practice, & knowledge-building is utilized as a key integrative device as staff participate in a systematic clarification of agency goals, values, & service methods. Obstacles to implementation are discussed, as are the program's accomplishments in promoting unity of effort. 19 References. AA
