A reflexive model for collaboration: empowering partnerships through focus groups.

Abstract

The study presents a reflexive model for collaboration, based on the use of focus groups, to build partnerships between a training institute and a statewide child welfare agency. The study examines Gray's "Collaborative Process Model" and expands and applies collaborative theory to real world partnership efforts. Outlined are key processes in the application of focus groups and linked are dimensions of collaboration, developmental stages, and focus group processes. Incorporating O'Looney's critique of collaborative process models, the reconceptualization moves collaboration from a task-oriented problem to one that is solution-oriented and visionary.
