Corporate Funding of the Arts in a Turbulent Environment

Abstract

Business giving or funding in culture & the arts is increasingly oriented around company objectives; amounts given are determined by pretax earnings, & managers who make giving decisions draw advice less from the arts community or public agencies than from other companies. Turbulence in government funding has only a modest effect on corporate support, just as change in corporate support has little impact on public backing. The separate logics of corporate & government support imply separate & distinctive long-term development strategies for nonprofit organizations. 2 Tables, 31 References.
