The future development of occupational social work.
Abstract
This article presents current definitions of occupational social work, followed by a proposed conceptual framework of occupational social work (OSW) based on three clusters of characteristics at the macro- and micro-societal levels: academic training and scholarship, professional culture, and the workplace. This conceptual framework provides a basis for examining future developments in the realm of cultural, societal, and organizational aspects of American society. Finally, an attempt is made to deal with the potential impact of these developments on the future development of (OSW) as an academic-professional specialization within the field of social work and on the practice of OSW in workplaces. (This is one of 12 articles in a special issue on occupational social work.).
