Occupational social work and prolonged job insecurity in a declining organization.

Abstract

The authors describe and analyze a situation of organizational decline that resulted in prolonged and severe job insecurity for all of its employees. The occupational social worker, who was continuously involved in the workplace crisis, struggled against odds to extend more systematic prevention and intervention services to both employees and management. The case study of a factory in Israel follows the organization's decline, the impacts upon employees and management, and management's trail of decision making, and through it all, the professional and personal difficulties of the social worker who acted from a systems perspective.
