A Descriptive Model of Emergency On-Call Blood Donation

Abstract

Reported are results from an interview study of emergency on-call blood donors (N = 58). Detailed is a series of empirical generalizations which describe the process through which donors come to volunteer as emergency donors. From these generalizations, results are organized into four conceptual categories: the habit of giving, the image of a recipient, the goal for giving, & the ideal conception of the gift. On-call donors have developed a habit, image, & goal for giving, but only a subset creates an ideal conception of its gifts. This claim is supported by excerpts from interviews & descriptions of general observations. HA.
