The Use of Traditional Social Settings in the Management of Contemporary Health Problems

Abstract

Empirical health & social research conducted in both the black & white communities of central Miss since Apr 1969, has attempted to document dominant health problems & to develop effective community-based behavior change or health intervention models. It is argued that effective health intervention models must be articulated to the local social structure, specifically the church & the extended family. The effectiveness of two such community-based models of high blood pressure detection & control is discussed, based on outcome data. 1 Table, 10 References. Modified HA
