Factors affecting student selection of macro specializations

Abstract

Declining graduate student enrollment in macro social work education threatens the profession's presence in and impact on needed social and institutional reform. A study discusses ideological, career, and curricular factors that influence method specialization decisions. Data are presented from an exploratory study of one school of social work, from which the macro enrollment dilemma can be further examined. Obstacles to specializing in the macro method are reported, along with recommendations for increasing the supply of macro social work students.
