Field Placements for Administration Students: An Agency's View

Abstract

Field work education of social administration students is discussed from the point of view of management & & supervision. Field work is analyzed within the context of the philosophy of social work education, the agency's resources & potential for offering field experience, the service organization as a system, & the service delivery format. The program offered by the Northwestern Instit of Psychiatry, an in-/outpatient psychiatric hospital in Fort Washington, Pa, is described in detail, showing the phases of student field education as a sequential process: preparation for offering the practicum opportunity, student orientation to the agency, selecting task assignments, supervision, & evaluation of student performance.
