Training Social Welfare Administrators: The Activity Dilemma

Abstract

The impact of personal & organizational variables on the development of behavioral patterns of social welfare administrators is examined, using data from a Personal Assessment Inventory administered to 68 social welfare administrators in preparation for a series of training sessions at the Management Instit, U of Alabama. The results suggest that the generalist nature of the administrative role is modified by the professional orientation & span of control of the individual in that role. The implications of these findings are discussed, with special attention paid to the need for development of appropriate training experiences. 6 Tables. Modified HA.
