Social Work Administrators: Their Educational Preparation, Value Orientation, Role Transition, and Satisfaction

Abstract

Presented are findings from a questionnaire survey of 285 social work administrators in a variety of agency settings in Los Angeles County, Calif. Selected demographic, educational, career, attitudinal, & agency factors are analyzed, including the nature of the administrators' educational preparation, their transition from clinical to administrative practice, & sources of role strain & satisfaction. A comparison is made between master's level clinical specialists & macrospecialists in administration. Issues & implications of these findings for social work education & administrative practice are discussed. Modified HA.
