Organizational and Interpersonal Aspects of In-Service Training: A Case Study

Abstract

Implementation of a policy objective in a drug addict methadone maintenance treatment center is used as a case study for considering obstacles to implementation across the various sources of power & influence existing in an organization. Impediments arose from three sources: (1) the varied bases of power, (2) the agency's norms & values, & (3) the communication network of the organization itself. The attempted objective -professionalization of the staff-necessitated utilization of several tactical strategies with the supervisors & counselors. Such strategies should be based on understanding how the organization functions, the psychological issues involved in possible change, & the interplay between both. T. Babitsky.
