An Approach to Interdisciplinary Collaboration

Abstract

Richard T. Crow & Charles A. Odewahn (U of Alabama, Birmingham) outline the structural impediments to interdisciplinary collaboration: (i) problems associated with the ideological stereotyping of the different degree areas, (ii) problems associated with concentrating on both business & social work, & (iii) problems associated with the U governance system. A model for interdisciplinary collaboration is suggested. It is based on a Master of Public Management degree (MPM) & focuses on a core of management skills & - an area of specialization in the social services.
