Curricular Variations in Nonprofit Management Graduate Programs

Abstract

A survey on universities and colleges offering nonprofit management graduate programs was conducted by highly experienced educationists, Naomi B. Wish and Roseanne M. Mirabella. A questionnaire was mailed to deans and program directors at more than one thousand colleges and universities that belonged to the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business, the National Association of Public Affairs and Administration, the Association for Research on Nonprofit Organizations and Voluntary Action, and the Nonprofit Academic Centers Council. It was found that as of March 1997, seventy-six universities and colleges offered graduate degree programs with a concentration (three or more courses) in the management of nonprofit organizations. The diversity of topics and the depth of course work was evident in universities that had developed three or more courses in the management of nonprofit organizations within a public administration degree program. Five universities included in the analysis offered a master's degree in nonprofit management.
