Executive exit: multiple perspectives on managing the leadership transition

Abstract

In this article, the authors draw upon their management consulting experience in the profit and nonprofit sectors to develop a framework for increasing understanding of a complex leadership transition process. A framework of administrative issues is proposed around the themes of timing, legacy, personal reactions, successors, coping with the lame duck period, and managing the transition.
