An exploratory study of administrative practice in collaboratives

Abstract

Examined how traditional administrative functions and processes are applied in a collaborative environment. Interviews were conducted with 12 social work administrators in human service agencies in southern California. The findings show that there are some areas of administrative practice that may be implemented differently in a collaborative. The themes that describe these differences focus on the following administrative functions and processes: relationship building, participatory planning, collective decision making, coordinating and sharing of tasks, problem solving/conflict resolution, and facilitative leadership. Each theme is described in this article. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2007 APA, all rights reserved)
