Agency and community characteristics associated with level of AFDC client use of social services
Abstract
In 1992, 13 percent of Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) cases in one state we’re receiving social services. In light of the hoped-for benefits of The Family Support Act, this percentage seems paradoxical and suggests the need to understand better the determinants of service utilization by AFDC recipients. A model is presented and tested that uses the categories of supply, client transaction costs, and demand to describe the relationship between agency and community factors and the level of AFDC client use of social services. Implications for social work administration are discussed. (Journal abstract.)
