Assessing prospects for organizational change: the uses of force field analysis

Abstract

The authors present the uses of force field analysis in assessing prospects for organizational change. In their view, effective assessment in organizational practice must incorporate diverse classes of data and sets of organizational variables that include the effects of organizational structure, the dynamics of social problems or service needs, the political preferences of participants, the effect of technology on the organization and its services, the economics of agency funding, and the regulatory environment within which the agency functions. The authors also argue that assessment, in terms of organizational practice, must address the dynamics of stability and change.
