A social worker's guide to organizational politics

Abstract

There is growing interest among social workers in the politics of organizational behavior. Contributing to this is the greater use of political models of analysis for understanding situations in which goals are in dispute among organizational members and in which scarce resources promote competitive and adversarial behavior. The skills social workers must develop to engage effectively in organizational politics are discussed. The discussion concludes with an examination of the personal and professional problems this may pose for professional social workers. (Journal abstract, edited.)
