A first stage organization life cycle study of six emerging nonprofit organizations in Los Angeles.
Abstract
There is an emerging organization life cycle literature concerning the growth and development of nonprofit organizations. Few studies have attempted to research the stage specific assumptions concerning the developmental phases of organizations. The author assesses organization life cycle theory at the first developmental stage for six Los Angeles-based unincorporated and not as yet IRS recognized nonprofit organizations. Six theoretical attributes associated with first stage development are examined in light of founder and group members' reported experience and the content of written materials. Tentative corroboration with organization life cycle theory is established, and some new insights offered into developmental dynamics of nonprofit destined groups. (Journal abstract.)
