Practitioners' Perspectives on Sound Reasoning: Adding a Worker-in-Context Component

Abstract

Despite the increasing emphasis being placed on sound reasoning in social work practice, there has been little empirical investigation of how practitioners understand this as taking concrete form or how it is impeded or facilitated by contextual & environmental factors. Here, questionnaire data from 69 direct practitioners in social service agencies providing case management services are drawn on to explore their beliefs concerning (1) what constitutes sound reasoning; (2) environmental factors that promote or interfere with sound reasoning; & (3) useful strategies in correcting problems in practice reasoning. Implications for the enhancement of sound reasoning in human service agencies are discussed. 3 Tables, 99 References. Adapted from the source document.
