Commitment, satisfaction, stress and control among social services managers and social work in the UK.

Abstract

This article explores the relationship between job commitment, satisfaction, and stress by examining data from studies of the United Kingdom social services work force. The authors review the literature on job commitment, satisfaction, and stress, and then describe the experience of managers and social workers in the statutory social services. Interactions between commitment and other variables are explored using instruments designed to measure commitment, satisfaction, stress, and control over work. The article concludes with a discussion of the findings and their implications for further data analysis. (This is one of 12 articles in a special issue on occupational social work.).
