Changing Labor Market Patterns in the Nonprofit and For-Profit Sectors: Implications for Nonprofit Management

Abstract

Similarities & differences in labor patterns in the nonprofit & for-profit sectors in the US are described based on analyses of the 1977 & 1980 survey data (N not provided) & current population survey data for 1973-1985. Results point to a marked decline during the 1980s in the wages of women in the nonprofit sector relative to women in the for-profit sector, which is likely to lead to labor shortages in the nonprofit sector if nonprofit managers do not engage in active policies to attract new workers. Suggestions are made for improving aspects of compensation & nonprofit job attributes. 3 Tables, 15 References. Adapted from the source document
