Enhancing Work for Professional Social Workers

Abstract

Low morale, low productivity, & high levels of dissatisfaction -- in short, worker burnout -- often plague social work agencies. Presented are several current management theories that suggest ways in which administrators can enhance workers' feelings of motivation, autonomy, & satisfaction in the performance of their work. A broad perspective of individual worker variables, the design of social work jobs, supervisory behavior, & organizational structure are examined in relation to ways of improving the world of work for professional social workers. 1 Figure.
