Supervision for management of worker stress.

Abstract

Stress and burnout suffered by workers in human services are issues of current concern to the helping professions. Although a considerable body of literature explores the stress phenomena, there is little that systematically relates the characteristics of competent supervision to the management of workers' stress. Differentially applied methods in administrative, educational, and supportive supervision, along with varied structural considerations, can effectively lessen the effects of ongoing stressors and alleviate the negative impact of crisis-related stressful events.
