Creating more effective human service organizations through strategies of empowerment.

Abstract

Practitioners in human service organizations are encouraged to empower their clients, yet they themselves feel disempowered within their organizations. The study reviews the current state of knowledge regarding organizational empowerment, and identifies structural, relational, and technological alternatives for promoting empowerment within organizations. Strategies of empowerment are critical to both service excellence for clients and job satisfaction for practitioners. (Journal abstract.)
