The Effects of Feedback on the Behavior of Organizational Personnel

Abstract

It has been shown that work organizations are complex information environments in which employees are continually required to make decisions, & that feedback about the effectiveness of one's work behavior is an important factor in the learning process. Drawing on previous research, several recommendations are offered to improve the effectiveness of organizational feedback systems, with focus on the central role of administrators. Several obstacles to effective feedback are identified, & recommendations for overcoming them are offered. The performance model of human service agencies developed by C. A. Rapp & J. Poertner ("A Performance Model for Human Service Management," working paper, School of Social Welfare, U of Kansas, 1986) is used to predict the impact of feedback systems on organizational effectiveness. 23 References.
