Management information systems and human service resource management.

Abstract

Creating effective, cost-efficient human services programs is a major management task. The nature, extent, and quality of services are clearly linked to the financial capability and priorities of the funding sources. Thus, resource acquisition, allocation, and accountability must be viewed along with programmatic decisions within a context of intricate relationships. The management information system (MIS) may be seen as the cornerstone in any approach to overall resource management. With this view, the discussion focuses on planning and performance information, management of an information system, major management decision-making issues, and the context of a human services MIS.
