Designing Social Work Management Information Systems: The Case for Performance Guidance Systems

Abstract

Three major types of management information systems -- housekeeping, decision support, & performance guidance -- are compared along several dimensions, with focus on their utility for human service organizations. It is concluded that guidance systems offer the greatest potential for enhancing performance. A model for designing & implementing a performance guidance system is described, & illustrated via a case study of the development of such a system in a large state child welfare agency. 27 References.
