Computers: tool of management and social work practice.

Abstract

The computer is viewed as a tool not only of management but of social work practice. The emergence of the "personal social services" as a distinct system, advances in the computer technology, the development of computerized information systems, and the increasing use of computers in service professions and training make it necessary that social work administrators and practitioners become sensitive to the computer's capacity and potential. However, unless computers and the information they generate are meaningful and useful to service staff as well as management, their introduction will be resisted and their potential unrealized. Nor can computers be seen as solutions to more fundamental management, service, or social welfare problems. (Journal abstract, edited.)
