A decision support system to increase equity.

Abstract

A computer-based decision support system, judged to have successfully increased the equity of service distribution, is described. Aside from certain innovative technological features, the unique emphasis of the system is the creation of rules from below. Guidelines and standards move from the bottom up rather than from the top down. The top-down decision-making in in-home supportive services, the design and operation of a decision support system, the implementation and performance of a demonstration project, and the ingredients of a successful information system are discussed.
