Computerization and job attitudes in child welfare.
Abstract
Using the introduction of a computerized case information system to
large public welfare agencies as a natural experiment, this study
explores child welfare workers' satisfaction with the new system, the
impact of the new computers on their attitudes toward their jobs and
their agencies, and the manner in which workers' expectations of the
new system prior to implementation changed after implementation. While
satisfaction with the system was low, changes in attitudes toward the
agency were minimal. The expectations of workers about the computers,
positive and negative, were exaggerated beyond the reality that ensued
after implementation. Implications for administrators are discussed.
