Measuring Clinical Outcomes and Their Use for Managers

Abstract

A discussion of how formal measurement tools can be used to further the aims of effectiveness-oriented social welfare administration practice. After summarizing various rating measures used to assess change in clients & evaluate the impact of service delivery efforts, it is argued that measurement of clients' problems repeatedly over time is a preferable strategy. Several measurement techniques are reviewed, & their advantages & drawbacks with different types of clients are discussed. Guidelines are provided to assist practitioners in selecting the most appropriate measure, along with some suggestions for using new measurement technology & training social work students in measurement skills & research. 21 References.
