A Guide for Women Managers: A Review of the Literature

Abstract

F social workers are looking for information to assist them in becoming effective managers/administrators. Recent books directed at managerial skill building were reviewed, with particular emphasis on books that attempted to explain why there are so few women in administrative positions & what can be done to alter this situation. The authors were primarily women who had become successful executives. Two primary themes emerged: the administrator's world is a man's world, & women can succeed in that world if they learn how to play by its rules. Another theme was that women are responsible for their lack of success in the managerial world; they must make the effort & changes in order to succeed.
