Building the Knowledge Base of Nonprofit Management:

A Searchable Database

A conceptual framework for selecting management indicators in nonprofit organizations.

Abstract

A conceptual framework for selecting or evaluating management indicators in nonprofit organizations has been developed from a base of management literature and practice experience in profit and nonprofit organizations. The framework includes both financial and nonfinancial dimensions of three major management concerns: effectiveness, efficiency, and adequacy of finances. Traditional systems theories are reformulated to provide a basis for classifying diverse organizational activities. This work is viewed as one step in the development of improved applications of management indicators, and the researchers encourage use and feedback.
